What did you say? F..flocking power?

Hey everyone

Every time I went into a craft store and asked for Flocking Power I got the same reaction. Then I got little giggles from the person behind the counter. I went to Hobby Lobby 3 times and Michaels 2 times. Finally I got lucky and found a single container of flocking powder, sadly they didn't have anymore in the store.

I went home and couldn't resist starting my mani immediately. I did 2 coats of OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls and then another coat only for adding the flocking powder. I patted it lightly so it would stick better. Then I brushed off the excess. I didn't seem to be very fuzzy so I lightly took the polish and brushed it over some of the bare spots in the flocking powder. And yes this got on the powder but I think the final product turned out great.

It's so white. And it's so soft! It really drives me nuts when I paint my nails and the first thing someone does is touch them. Why are you trying to ruin my top coat?!? So when I went to work with this mani I didn't tell anyone what I'd done. I just showed it to them. Of course seeing their faces as the touched my nails was hilarious. Some people jerked their hand back and some people didn't even notice.

The key with flocking powder in my opinion is to find a color that matches the powder. Because yes after using my hands all day and having people pet me the fuzziness did wear off on the edges. I expected it and wasn't upset at all. It's powder, it won't stay all day. So the base polish matching the power makes it look completely normal The fun part is washing your hands. Because it clumps up and looks a little strange on the nail, but then it dries and look relatively the same. White does get dirty though. I work in a bank and deal with money which is disgusting so of course the white turned darker after messing with the money all day. But it wasn't a deal breaker for me because no one noticed it.

The whole time I had my nails like this I thought of Despicable Me!

All in all flocking powder is a total win in my book. I can't wait to get more and continue to try it. It's a super fun way to do your nails that can still be understated and not in your face like some nail art designs can be. I recommend everyone try it at least once!

Zoya's Aurora

Hey everyone

Today I have another polish from my Zoya 2013 buy. This is Aurora. It's from the Ornate collection just like Storm. It's funny when I first heard about the Zoya 2013 promo neither polish was on my list, until I saw swatches. Then I had to have both.

Aurora is a berry holographic polish. It's so unbelievably sparkly. It's just absolutely beautiful.

Look how much sparkle. It's just a little glitter bomb all wrapped up in a jelly polish. This is 2 normal coats with one thin to cover up any patches. The formula on this polish was just a good if not better than Storm.

Awkward right hand pose! But it showed off the holographic glitter. Aurora has more holographic glitter than Storm. Aurora is probably in my top 20 of favorite polishes and that's saying a lot, because I have a ton. I just love love love this polish. If you are looking for a nice glittery polish go pick up Aurora you will not regret it.

Zoya's Storm

Hey everyone

When Zoya did their 3 free polishes for 2013 I had to add Storm to my list. I just could not resist a black holographic polish. But sadly everyone else had the same reaction, so because I was late to the Storm party I had to wait. Storm was on back order for about 2 weeks. They told me I could either wait for my polish or pick a new one. Storm was number one on my lemming list so I decided it was worth the wait.

So pretty. I love how much glitter it has. And it's opaque in 2 coats. The formula is fantastic, so shiny and bright. This doesn't have a top coat by the way.

I had to post a blurry photo to show off all of the holographic goodness. I honestly have nothing but good things to say about Storm. When you are in lower lighting it's not as holographic, it's black with silver glitter which is just as pretty. The bottom photo shows the effect low lighting has on the polish.

Seriously go buy Storm! What are you waiting for?

Julep's Leah

Hey everyone,

Another swatch from the vaults! Remember when I got a voucher from Julep for free polish in my July box? I bought Leah with it. Leah is a beautiful green polish. I could not believe how pretty it was.

I'm not even sure what color to call this green. It's so pretty and bright. Leah also has a fantastic formula. It goes on smooth. This is 2 coats.

It's strange that I see a little bit of visable nail line, because there wasn't any when I wear this polish. All in all, I loved this polish. Julep has been kind of hit or miss for me. I meant to partake in last months' box, but I didn't get it set up in time. I'm hoping to get this months box, just really depends on what's in there.

MSMD Monday: Owl Edition

Hey everyone

I have a Monkey See Monkey Do Monday design!!! Yay! Slowly but surely I am getting back into the swing of things. This design was submitted in a contest on Instagram. Darcy at SparrowNails made a contest where you submitted art inspired by fellow nail art bloggers. I chose Alice from OneNailToRuleThemAll. Her design is featured <<here>>. Owls have become really popular lately and her design is perfect for Valentine's Day coming up. Here's my take on her design.

I even included the hoots. I was beyond pleased with these. The only real issue I have is my owl eyes were a little tiny. But other than that, I'm very happy. The winner hasn't been announced yet, so go on Instagram and like my picture! There's a link over there ---> somewhere. :)

Don't You Leave Me Broken Hearted Tonight

Hey everyone

Today's design is in preparation for Valentine's Day. I'm actually going through a divorce and will be alone on Valentine's Day for the first time in 7 years. So I had to do a "sad" design for all those singles or V-Day haters out there. This was also day 1 for the Nail Art February Challenge on Instagram.

I started out this design with Zoya's Dove. Then I used Red Angel Plate RA-114 and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear for the gray hearts. Lastly I used Salon Express Plate SE-21 with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Wined up for the big hearts. I love them. I later put a matte top coat on and loved them more. Wish I would have done that from the start. But these are still cute.

Green With Envy

Hey everyone

I have a stamped design for you today. This one was a lot cuter than I expected. I really like this heart stamp from Red Angel.

On my thumb, index, and pinky I have OPI's Gargantuan Grape. It's a soft green that I just adore. It can be a bit streaky and takes some build, but it's a very pretty grape. On my middle and ring finger I have OPI's My Boyfriend Scales Walls. And then using Red Angel Plate RA-114 and Sally Hansen's Insta-Dri in Jumpin Jade I made the hearts. Super cute and simple mani. Love it!

Wizard of Oz

Hey everyone

I am super excited. In exactly a month the new Wizard of Oz movie comes out. I love Wizard of Oz. I'm currently trying to read all of the books in time for the movie. It's been stated that Oz is going to follow the books where Wizard of Oz really didn't all that well. So in honor of the movies I'm posting my Wizard of Oz nails.

First we have the supplies. Look at all of that! It's crazy that all of those polishes get used in one design. It took forever too.

  1. Sinful Colors' Pandora
  2. Finger Paints' Romanticism Ruby
  3. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Blue Me Away & Deep Blue Sea
  4. China Glaze in Trendsetter
  5. Zoya in Veruschka, Jancyn, and Dree
  6. OPI in My Boyfriend Scales Walls
  7. Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in Red and Black
  8. Nail Art Brush in Brown

We have the Yellow Brick Road, Dorthy's Dress, Scarecrow's shirt, Tin Man's Chest, and Cowardly Lion's Tail. This took forever to be honest. I had to wait for each little piece to dry. But the final product was well worth it. I love these nails. I totally didn't want to take them off. I even did little witch feet on the other hand which is where the Finger Paints and Nail Art Pens came in, but they were awful.

Heart Cheetah

Hey everyone

Today I have a simple design for you. This is much better suited for long nails, not my little nubbins. If I had longer nails I would totally rock these nails day. I finally figured out how to do cheetah print. So heart cheetah prints? Oh heck yes.

Aren't they cute? I just wish my nails would have been longer. I ran out of space and I also can't draw hearts that well. I've gotta practice. I used Tara's Nail Polish in Mulan and the hearts I drew using Sally Hansen's Nail Art Pen in Red. Black was my trust black art deco long brush.

OPI's Metallic 4 Life

Hey everyone

A while back I found some OPIs at my local Kroger. Today is a swatch from the vault. OPI's Metallic 4 Life from the Nicki Minaj collection.

This polish is very strange. It's a gray polish with a lot of silver mulit-size silver glitter. But it looks kind of clumpy. I like it but not a whole lot. It's certainly not one I was willing to go run out and buy as soon as it came out.

I put a matte coat over it and liked it a little more. But not by much.

I Feel Your Heart Beat to the Beat of the Drum

Hey everyone

So today I have some inspired nails! I was inspired by the lovely Sam at The Nailasaurus. She did these fantastic heartbeat nails featured <<here>>. I quickly fell in love with the design. And it is February after all. So I had to do it!

I love it! I thought it turned out great. I should have submitted it for Monkey See Monkey Do Mondays but, I was a little late as you can see. Today is Tuesday. (I should totally include a Supernatural reference in here, but I'll spare you my fangirl tendencies)

I started off with Revlon's Fire Fox which is a red matte polish with a subtle red shimmer. Then I added Essence's Glamourous Life. And I made the heartbeat with my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in white. Hope you enjoyed them!
